Molten Lava Cake

As I was getting this post ready,I tried to recall when was the first time I tasted this beauty.I think it must have been Dominos Choco Lava Cake.I have ordered Pizza only so that I could have it,have to admit, they taste awesome. But I've got good news, not the obvious one hmpf--I can make better tasting Lava Cake--yes and that's what this post is all about!!

This month,Sweet Punch challenge is hosted by yours truly and I chose this super easy recipe from Showmethecurry.com.Despite being a very do-able recipe, this one scores points on the number of ingredients too.Just 5 ingredients and in under 20 minutes, you can get everything done from start to finish, isn't that great??

I was jumping in joy literally when the cake got baked and was smelling so good.I wanted a gooey molten center so I baked for a shorter time. After some pics,I took a deep breath and inverted the cake to a plate, waiting to see the molten center and when I saw it..God,just couldn't stop myself from having it,burning my lips and tongue in the process..hehe,still worth it!!Loved this month's challenge--truly a punch!!

Molten Center Lava Cakes
Recipe courtesy - Hetal & Anuja @ Showmethecurry.com

Ingredients

Chocolate - 4 oz,113 gms
Butter - 4 oz,113 gms
Eggs - 2
Sugar - 1/3 cup
All purpose flour - 1/4 cup
Butter - for greasing the ramekins

Method

Preheat oven to 180C.
Melt chocolate in a double boiler OR Microwave it for 2 minutes with 30 second intervals, checking in between.
Once the chocolate melts completely, mix in the butter and stir well-let it cool.
In a mixing bowl, beat eggs and sugar till light and fluffy.
Mix in the chocolate-butter mix and flour and beat well till you get a smooth batter.
Butter bottom and sides of your ramekins and pour the batter about 3/4 full.
Place the ramekins on a baking tray and bake for 10-15 minutes, shorter for gooey insides and longer for stiff insides.I baked for 12 minutes.
Serve hot with whipped cream or Vanilla ice-cream.

Am taking a short break for a few days,so seeya guys after a while..tata!!

  21. Hi!

I tried this and it didn't come out like yours! they looked like flat brownies :/ and I followed your recipe completely! Hmmm

    1. Hey Stephanie, sorry to hear that.Did you beat the eggs and sugar till fluffy?Since there is no leavening in the recipe, the volume comes from beating the cake batter till fluffy.Bake for the prescribed time and I am sure you'll get it right!

  23. Hi divya,

i liked this receipe but couldn't understand how you did the liquid inside the cake.
ALso would like to request that could you please mention which sugar you would be using for different cakes.BEcause some cakes are made from powerdered sugar some from castor.

Thanks for the wonderful receipes i had made milk sponge cake which was amazing.
    Friends loved it.

    1. The liquid inside the cake is the 'lava' part of the cake.A simple batter is made and baked for a shorter period so that the center remains gooey.Since there is a good quantity of chocolate in the batter,it wouldn't taste uncooked,on the contrary,it is the lava which elevates the cake to a different level.

I use normal granulated sugar for all my bakes unless it calls for powdered/caster sugar.

  34. Hi Divya just chanced upon your blog when i was browsing the net for a easy to follow molten lava cake recipe. What struck me about your blog was the easy to follow instructions and the tempting pictures accompanying them.I love baking ,especially when one has a fussy eight year old at home.I have to try all sort of tricks and treats to tempt my little one.An army wife ,we often get posted to remote and far flung locations where fancy ingredients are hard to come by.Impromptu parties and pot lucks see us through many sultry summers and wintry evenings and blogs such as yours are a god send.Your molten lava cake recipe mentions 113 gms/4 oz of chocolate to be used, could you tell me how many measuring cups does that roughly make since i don't have a weighing instrument at home.A big thank you and god bless.Hope to hear from you.

    1. Thanks so much for the wonderful feedback Rachana.113 gms would be roughly 1/2 a cup.

  36. hello! where should i place the Ramekins in the oven? the top/bottom/middle rack? and should i on the top , bottom or both (top and bottom) flame while baking?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I am guessing you are using an OTG,in that case, keep the pan(with the ramekins on)on the middle rack with the bottom rod heating.

  42. Hi Divya, if I am not mistaken, I think there is something amiss in your recipe steps. First microwave the choc and mix the butter in, let cool.. Next beat the eggs and sugar till light and fluffy. Now is my series of doubts...
    1. Add the flour to this egg sugar mixture and beat it nicely like we do for he cake batter ?
    2. Should I add all the choc butter mixture or only some to the cake batter ?
    3. Should I pour the cake batter 1/2 way then add the choc butter mixture, then top this with cake batter again ?
Why these qs in mind bcos, even I didn't get the molten lava cake like u hv got in ur pic.

Kindly help ... More than me my little boy was so disappointed that he didn't get his chocolate from the cake.. Hv promised him I will get it right. I don't have ramekins but used the individual aluminum cupcake moulds.
Had tried ur garlic breadsticks and my son loves it from dominoes and he was going gaga about it. Had also tried your vanilla sponge cake, was real yumm... But this MLC broke me down... Can you help please?

    Thank you,
    Divya (I m too divya)...

    1. Hey Divya, good to hear from a namesake:)

Melt the chocolate and butter together keep aside to cool.
Beat together eggs and butter till fluffy.Mix in the all of the melted chocolate-butter.Add flour and beat well-yes,like you do for a cake batter.

how long did you bake the cake for?Try baking for a lesser period.Hope you get it right this time.

I would also suggest you to check out the link I've given where there is a video which explains the steps clearly.
