Molten Lava Cake
As I was getting this post ready,I tried to recall when was the first time I tasted this beauty.I think it must have been Dominos Choco Lava Cake.I have ordered Pizza only so that I could have it,have to admit, they taste awesome. But I've got good news, not the obvious one hmpf--I can make better tasting Lava Cake--yes and that's what this post is all about!!
This month,Sweet Punch challenge is hosted by yours truly and I chose this super easy recipe from Showmethecurry.com.Despite being a very do-able recipe, this one scores points on the number of ingredients too.Just 5 ingredients and in under 20 minutes, you can get everything done from start to finish, isn't that great??
I was jumping in joy literally when the cake got baked and was smelling so good.I wanted a gooey molten center so I baked for a shorter time. After some pics,I took a deep breath and inverted the cake to a plate, waiting to see the molten center and when I saw it..God,just couldn't stop myself from having it,burning my lips and tongue in the process..hehe,still worth it!!Loved this month's challenge--truly a punch!!
Molten Center Lava Cakes
Recipe courtesy - Hetal & Anuja @ Showmethecurry.com
Ingredients
Chocolate - 4 oz,113 gms
Butter - 4 oz,113 gms
Eggs - 2
Sugar - 1/3 cup
All purpose flour - 1/4 cup
Butter - for greasing the ramekins
Method
Preheat oven to 180C.
Melt chocolate in a double boiler OR Microwave it for 2 minutes with 30 second intervals, checking in between.
Once the chocolate melts completely, mix in the butter and stir well-let it cool.
In a mixing bowl, beat eggs and sugar till light and fluffy.
Mix in the chocolate-butter mix and flour and beat well till you get a smooth batter.
Butter bottom and sides of your ramekins and pour the batter about 3/4 full.
Place the ramekins on a baking tray and bake for 10-15 minutes, shorter for gooey insides and longer for stiff insides.I baked for 12 minutes.
Serve hot with whipped cream or Vanilla ice-cream.

reecipe.
can you send the same recipes without using eggs?
This cake is yummy.
ReplyDeleteI would like to have eggless recipe for the same cake
THANKS
Hi!
ReplyDeleteI tried this and it didn't come out like yours! they looked like flat brownies :/ and I followed your recipe completely! Hmmm
Hey Stephanie, sorry to hear that.Did you beat the eggs and sugar till fluffy?Since there is no leavening in the recipe, the volume comes from beating the cake batter till fluffy.Bake for the prescribed time and I am sure you'll get it right!
Deleteyour recipes are so awesome!!why dont you make a custom domain (that is dot com) so that more and more people can read your awesome recipes
ReplyDeleteThanks,I have a custom domain now:)
DeleteHi divya,
ReplyDeletei liked this receipe but couldn't understand how you did the liquid inside the cake.
ALso would like to request that could you please mention which sugar you would be using for different cakes.BEcause some cakes are made from powerdered sugar some from castor.
Thanks for the wonderful receipes i had made milk sponge cake which was amazing.
Friends loved it.
The liquid inside the cake is the 'lava' part of the cake.A simple batter is made and baked for a shorter period so that the center remains gooey.Since there is a good quantity of chocolate in the batter,it wouldn't taste uncooked,on the contrary,it is the lava which elevates the cake to a different level.
DeleteI use normal granulated sugar for all my bakes unless it calls for powdered/caster sugar.
hi. could you please share the eggless version of this cake?

ReplyDeletethanx a lot vidya....but could u tell me a replacement for egg in this? it would b very helpful...:/
ReplyDeleteI am not sure the same recipe would work if you substituted eggs, however here is an eggless version of the cake - http://www.divyascookbook.com/2012/03/eggless-molten-chocolate-lava-cake.html
Deleteyummyyy, i love your lava cake divya, i love the chocolate coming out fron the middel of the cake.
ReplyDeletehi divya,i love the chocolate coming out from the middel of the cake thank u so muchh luv u
ReplyDeleteAwesome!! Didnt know it could be so simple. but what is ramekins, where to get them?
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, your photography is too good. You actually capture the yummyness of ur cuisiens.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, assuming the above comment was made by yourself too.Ramekins are small baking dishes-perfect for Souffles, single serving dishes and yes,for lava cakes too!
Deletecan i make it in in microwave wid cnvection mode?
ReplyDeletecan i make it in microwave wid cnvection mode
ReplyDeleteYes you can, this one was made in the MW convection mode as well!
DeleteHi Divya just chanced upon your blog when i was browsing the net for a easy to follow molten lava cake recipe. What struck me about your blog was the easy to follow instructions and the tempting pictures accompanying them.I love baking ,especially when one has a fussy eight year old at home.I have to try all sort of tricks and treats to tempt my little one.An army wife ,we often get posted to remote and far flung locations where fancy ingredients are hard to come by.Impromptu parties and pot lucks see us through many sultry summers and wintry evenings and blogs such as yours are a god send.Your molten lava cake recipe mentions 113 gms/4 oz of chocolate to be used, could you tell me how many measuring cups does that roughly make since i don't have a weighing instrument at home.A big thank you and god bless.Hope to hear from you.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the wonderful feedback Rachana.113 gms would be roughly 1/2 a cup.
Deleteoki ill bake it in mw but what will be d timings
ReplyDeleteAs mentioned in the recipe-180C for 10-15 minutes, depending on your preference on how gooey you want the center to be!
Deletehello! where should i place the Ramekins in the oven? the top/bottom/middle rack? and should i on the top , bottom or both (top and bottom) flame while baking?
ReplyDeleteI am guessing you are using an OTG,in that case, keep the pan(with the ramekins on)on the middle rack with the bottom rod heating.
Deletehi .. this looks divine ...can I use choclate sauce instead of regular choclate ?
ReplyDeleteI am not sure if chocolate sauce will work out as well as using chocolate.
Deletedivya ,u hve not used baking powder can i use it
ReplyDeleteBaking powder is not required in this recipe.
Deletehi divya,ur recipie is very easy & cake is looking very yummy.i will definately try it.thanks:)
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletei m going to try it right now but can i use muffin moulds instead of ramekins?
ReplyDeleteYes you can.But make sure you use sturdy ones, silicone molds would be a good choice.
Deletei tried making them but it was not a gooey molten center ..what did i do wrong..n also what should be the temperature if on micro plus convection mode??
DeleteI baked this one at 180C for 12 minutes. Each oven is different so check by baking for a lesser period of time.
DeleteHi Divya, if I am not mistaken, I think there is something amiss in your recipe steps. First microwave the choc and mix the butter in, let cool.. Next beat the eggs and sugar till light and fluffy. Now is my series of doubts...
ReplyDelete1. Add the flour to this egg sugar mixture and beat it nicely like we do for he cake batter ?
2. Should I add all the choc butter mixture or only some to the cake batter ?
3. Should I pour the cake batter 1/2 way then add the choc butter mixture, then top this with cake batter again ?
Why these qs in mind bcos, even I didn't get the molten lava cake like u hv got in ur pic.
Kindly help ... More than me my little boy was so disappointed that he didn't get his chocolate from the cake.. Hv promised him I will get it right. I don't have ramekins but used the individual aluminum cupcake moulds.
Had tried ur garlic breadsticks and my son loves it from dominoes and he was going gaga about it. Had also tried your vanilla sponge cake, was real yumm... But this MLC broke me down... Can you help please?
Thank you,
Divya (I m too divya)...
Hey Divya, good to hear from a namesake:)
DeleteMelt the chocolate and butter together keep aside to cool.
Beat together eggs and butter till fluffy.Mix in the all of the melted chocolate-butter.Add flour and beat well-yes,like you do for a cake batter.
how long did you bake the cake for?Try baking for a lesser period.Hope you get it right this time.
I would also suggest you to check out the link I've given where there is a video which explains the steps clearly.
i just want to make sure that we dont have to use baking powder ....????
Deleteplzz reply ASAP i want to make it its very tempting
Shazia, you don't need baking powder in this recipe.Go ahead and bake it :)
DeleteHi Divya,
ReplyDeleteOhh nice to hear from you... I usually stick to the time given in the recipes I bake from. Well will try it out again. Now i have bookmarked your eggless dates cake, my son does not like to eat dates raw, so will try by giving it via cake..Also I have tried your garlic bread sticks again with notes taken from other sites too. Please do check my recipe at my evolving blog : eclecticcookingrecipes.blogspot.com.
