Kellya Usli

Gosh..just in time..just in time.Almost thought I wouldn't be able to post today..:-(.Today was a busy day...doing what you might think..;-).Was planning to post in the evening, one thing came after other and here I am with my latest(pun-intended) post in RM.

I rarely used banana(plantain) as a vegetable in my cooking.Made simple upkari sometimes, but thats it.This one too is my ma-in-law's speciality and one dish which made me buy banana every time during our veggie shopping. Its quite similar to "thoran",only the masala differs.

Recipe Marathon - Day 10

Kellya Usli-Banana(Plantain) stir-fry with ground coconut masala

Ingredients

Banana(plantain) - 1
Grated coconut - 1 cup
Roasted red chillies - 5-6
Tamarind - a small piece
Coriander seeds - 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil - 1 tbsp
Onions - 1,finely chopped
Ginger - 1' piece,finely chopped

Method

Cook the banana till mushy.Peel the skin off.
Mash the cooked banana with a potato masher or with the back of a spoon.
Grind to a coarse paste-grated coconut, red chillies, tamarind and coriander seeds.
In a kadai, add oil and saute onions and ginger till light brown.
Add the mashed banana and the ground masala.
Sprinkle a little water, add salt to taste and mix well.
Simmer for 5 minutes till the usli dries up and everything gets mixed.
Serve hot with rice and dali thoi!
